Let me depart from the typical fairy tale. Let me break the wicked stepmother stereotype.
I’m a stepmother.
But I am not wearing a red cloak or a black cape. I do not cast spells. And I do not lock the children in a tower.
Stepmothers in the flesh are trying their best to show up everyday with love, trying to blend a family without losing themselves.
Here is a little checklist to remind you that stepmothers are not the villain in the family story.
Oh, a stepmother is also able to laugh at herself as she knows humor helps even the most serious situations.
The stepmotherhood journey is rarely simple. It is layered, emotional and asks more than you expect. But if she allows herself to be human and imperfect, the load becomes lighter and more sustainable.
Stepmoms do not have to get everything right. It is mostly a matter of showing up, not only for the family, but for her own self, foremost.
